50th Aniversary
Aniversary is august. Celebration is Sat, Sept. 20, 2008. We have the designs to vote on tonight. Sam is chair of 50th committee. Veteran's center has not decided weather or not they will allow Eth. Sam selected Nat. Atomic museum, who will allow any caterer. Deposited $125 for room, and will owe rest of $500 before event.
Was able to do 6 colors, for < $7 each, 200 shirts. However, we are looking at more like 75 shirts, so it will be more.
One design is simpler, done by James Sanchez, graphics artist. Other is done by ray, and was more complex.
The simpler Sanchez design was selected for T-shirt. Sam would like to use the other design elsewhere in publications or other items.
Sam has a list of 715 ex members. 75 people attended 40th aniversary celebration.
Current Business
GypKaP
GypKaP this weekend. New Location. There are a few drainages into closed basins. There are a few known caves. Knutt will do some GIS study to direct ridge walking. Nearest town is Corona. People show up friday night. Most caving is saturday. Many people strike camp, then do a short trip on Sunday. Contact Knutt or Blake for more information.
Sandia Cave Cleanup
Graphitti removal project, using NSS equipment planned for November. Sandblasting. Ray presented to Ranger district. There are Archeological concerns. Will need visits to the site to identify any markings that need to remain. Will need volunteers for not just work, but crowd control. Archeological areas, if any, will need to be documented before any work begins. May want photo records of whole cave before work begins. Micheal Smith will try to get some historical data on Sandia cave out of interest for its history.
Mike Bilbo is advising local people on some ideas of how to proceed, although this is not BLM land.
Pecos Nat. Historical Baca Cave Inventory
Ted wants more information. Sharon talked to him, having found her name on the WWW site. Jennifer had talked to him before also. He is talking directly to us. We don't know what Jennifer Foote's role will be. They want inventory, archeological, biological, survey. This is rumored to be a sandstone cave. Very near the town of Pecos. There may be un-dropped pits in the cave. Local rumors say that the cave may have been mined. Govt. believes that it may be unexplored.
Grotto agreed by acclimation that we will propose to do the Baca Cave Inventory in response to park service requirements. They may be expecting reports similar to ElMaP.
