went to chili and easter island last summer to survey caves for a nasa project

ron helped put together an animated program

jul 14, 2008. left. went to a house in san pedro for a month. caving in cordilla de la sal. mostly caves in halite (salt). they get avg. 3-5mm rain / year. They often go 5-6 years without rain. When it does rain, it is often around 1 inch.

then went to santiago on way to easter island. spent about a week on easter island.

Ft. Stanton Fatality

Jennifer, Carol, Sam, and Linda were going to Ft. Stanton. Bilbo was there on a trip, and reported that he had an incident.

Carol and jenifer went with Bilbo back to victim, tom, who appears to have had a heart attack. Other people were giving CPR. Jennifer took over as IC. Gave CPR for over an hour. Was 70 min to get out and back to caver with help. Within 3 hours, Tom was removed from the cave.

Basic wisdom. Take duct tape, a pad, heat blanket, heat/light source, food water. If you can't fix it with duct tape, just keep them warm and get help. Although we are told to continue CPR until relieved, or you can't anymore, usually victims are brain dead in 6-8 minutes. odds are very low of recovery after a few minutes in remote, rough, non-hospital situations. Kids or healthy people might last an hour. But chances are still very slim if you are not expecting help within an hour.

Old Business

Sam has looked into nominating John Corchran for merit. We are also looking into sponsoring an/some fellow app(s).
