sec report

no changes

treasurer

sent $500 to white nose fund. got letter back for donation.

current $2764.46 balance

white nose

may have european origin

beacher said no sign of white nose in ft. stanton.

unknown if it is effecting tree bats. seems to hit mostly hibernaculums.

people from east will be asked to purchase new caving clothes to cave elsewhere.

old business

brochure

judsen sent out brochure. could use more photos. Linda re-typed in info from a brochure around 15 years ago. Would be nice to cover conservation, caving safety, etc... Judsen is in field. Linda will draft next version of brochure. Might be unwise to circulate a map showing cave locations, even if they are in the public record.

ft. stanton / snowy river natl conservation area

National conservation area was established. $900,000 will be split for 3 areas. much of ft. stanton's share will go to a visitor's area at ft. stanton. Drug program will move off fort, and the cave project will move to the old nurser's quarters.

KUNM and a reporter from Ruidoso were covering Ft. Stanton project.

YMCA team summer

Asking if we host cave trips. Requested we may want to work with the ABQ recreation people, since we can't equip 15-20 people.

mac edwards

Grotto chair in early 70's. just passed away. We never got him the promised 50th anniversary disk. he was ill, COPD, using O2. he gave us several carbide lights and a box of documents. He was among the first to gate Ft. Stanton 35 years ago.

nss director ballot

send in your ballots.

Ray recommended write-in on two candidates. Bill Putnam. Lee's bio should have been distributed. Keith Weeland, College Station, U Pensylvania was a responsive IO chairman. Linda Baker Devine is a caver and cave owner, and international explorer, long time board member. Has taken a sabatical from the board. she encouraged NM to so a convention.

Carol Teiderman is from Maryland. Chair of conv. planning committee. also supportive of a NM convention. There may be a firewall from board to convention planning committee, due to conflict of interest. She will know more about conv. planning than any.

Ted Kayes has been on board before. Supported NM convention.

Linda says that the published platforms are good and informative to help with your decision.

There are few to no western cavers running.

note from keith weeland:

7 new grottos this year.

paleontology section has disbanded.

reminder to do IO report on time

High Guads regional in April

was cold.

New Business

Tried to plan recreational trips, about 1/month.

Addendum: Upcoming recreational trips list, from the committee:

Grotto Trips for 2009 to 2010
May 16 - El Malpais, Candelaria Ice Cave and others nearby
June 13 - Pronoun Cave Complex (Dan Montoya, survey practice and explore)
July 10-12 - Fort Stanton, camping 2 nights (Carol, Linda and.)
August - Cave Creek Cave, Pecos wilderness (hiking, wet entrance)
Late September - Lower Guads (NPS caves, camping at Parks Ranch)
October - Chiricahua Crystal Cave, southeastern Arizona--weekend (Carol L., leader with others)
November - Torgac Cave (Joe G., leader)
December - no trip due to holidays and Xmas party
January - Buckman Cave or YoYo Pit (ridgewalking and vertical) near Santa Fe
February - Ogle Cave, NPS (vertical, photography emphasis)

Other ideas for later in 2010

High Guads (USFS caves--Hidden, Black, whatever is open)
Wright's Crack/Shroppler's Hole
Gallinas Cave (San Pedro wilderness)

May will try to get a permit for Mission from Jeff Alford, Candalaria ice cave, Grants. May 16.

June will try for pronouns. tentative 13 june. may do some survey training.

Carl would like to try and do a photo trip to Classic or Braided cave. A trip where we can spend time to do photography. Might be better for not the general monthly. Carl needs help getting to braided and permits.

July, weekend camping to Ft. Stanton.

Aug. Day trip to Cave Creek in Pecos. Small cave, nice hike.

Sep. lower guads. many need to move later depending on heat.

Oct. Perhaps Chiracawa Crystal. 3-day trip. long drive.

Nov. Torgac. weekend. may need to check on cave closure times for bats. Perhaps we can have a photo group on this trip, to a photogenic cave.

Some more distant trips might be nice. Colorado. Mexico.

contacts

Kevin has done a lot to foster contacts with local land owners. Zia pueblo. Candalaria. Lets be sure to keep these relationships strong after Kevin moves. Stay in touch. Some of the Zia people are easily pleased with gifts of food.

Personnell changes

Knutt , librarian is moving. Joe is willing to take over. Jen B. has archives. Will transfer to Joe.

We also need new vice chair and chair. Kevin will most likely be moving, almost surely. It may be best to elect new people.

Constitution asks for 30-day notice, publication, and nominations IF POSSIBLE. However we could go today, if needed.

Carl nominates Sam for char. declines.

Carol nominated for Vice chair, by Liz. declined.

Vice-Chair fills in for Chair, and plans programs. Many programs may have already been scheduled. We will need to contact Knutt.

Sam nominates Joe for char. declines.

Deb nominates Linda for chair. accepted.

Aaron nominates Robert Grubbs for chair. He is not present, so he will be contacted to see if he will accept. He accepted by phone.

Joe nominates nate for vice-chair. accepted.

Motion: vote for vice. Nate elected by voice vote.

Vote for chair next month at meeting.

So far, Robert Grubbs and Linda Starr have accepted nominations. Contact e-board if you are interested, you can get seconded and elected next month as a write-in if you choose to run.

Nate will lead next meeting, as the new vice chair.

science fair

Winner, Sarah Burford has been invited to may meeting. May meeting is moved forward to May 18 to avoid memorial day.

It appears that children can be in private party, before the kitchen closes at Copper lounge. When kitchen closes, Copper becomes a "tavern" and children cannot be present, even if accompanied by parent.

If the science fair winner cannot present, Linda will talk about another NSS convention bid.

memorial day regional

might have use of field house. it is dry, and they may close forest.

more announcements

Linda needs more sponsors for 50 mile MS walk, end of may. Her brother died of MS. needs $200 more sponsorship to raise the $1500 needed to walk.

ABQ folk festival is June 19-20.

Break to order food before auction
