Intro from new chair, Robert Grubbs. Plans:

  1. maintain working relationships with landowners, and tribes
  2. establish communications with grottos in other states, like CO
  3. re-work WWW site
    • library list
    • contact info for loaner equipment
    • brochures, notes, newsletters, other info on-line

Linda Starr: Wants to make sure connections are strong with other region grottos in TX and AZ. There is an Oct trip to Chiracawa crystal, and should invite AZ grottos.

  1. Robert Grubbs - Chair - Flattops, CO. Too much snow.
  2. Aaron - Secretary - Ice caves.
  3. Nathan - Vice Chair - Going Away party for Kevin at Turtle Mountain. Has been mountain biking on the back of sandias. There is limestone. And some holes near San Yisidro.
  4. Dylan Jenkenson - Linda Starr's son. Back from MD. Did do some rope work gold prospecting. Some Backpacking.
  5. Rose -- GypKap, with blake and robert. Bomb Target. JY (small). Re-surveu walk rock. Sunday trip into Bloodstone. 300' survey for the weekend. Knutt came up.
  6. Ira -- Also did Ice Caves with grotto. Took family to big-tubes area. 4 windows.
  7. Fred -- meeting before last went to AZ with Kevin to Acorn. What used to be 2' crawl was now a 4' crawl. Had to do several digs to get to a 15' wide creek, 6" deep. It is no longer there. The 4' crawl to the creek shrunk to 1.5', and had 3-4 small digs to get through. There was a 40' climb down. This time there was a hole in it that went to a 100+' pit. Want to revisit pit, and where the creek water went. Next day went to 41 club. Connected J survey to A survey through a squeeze. Had going passage downstream, but no time to check it out. Near Dumditty, hamber and hotdog caves.

  10. Karen -- Ice Caves, was second cave. Plans on Ft Stanton July 10-12
  11. Jennifer Boyette -- Went to Moab, arches. Rafting.

  13. Sam Bono -- no caving. Going to Ft. Stanton this weekend for project. Plan on going to convention. Got NSS 25 year pin. Hence a grotto member for about 27 years.

  16. Linda Starr -- 21 people on ice cave trip. had watermellon. Pronoun trip was canceled, no leaders available. Then went to Ft. Standton cave study project last weekend. Dug for pad at botton of mud-turtle shaft. Sunday went into mud turtle carying equipment for 3D laser movie (measurements?). BLM hired private company to do measurements. Did radio work to Mount Airy, surface point was in a road. The project did some high lead checking. Lyles and james conner, and stan alison from CaCa, and Brian Alexander from Los Alamos. Donald Davis lead a trip to survey side leads. They found little.
  17. keefer -- has been in Belize. Did not get access to the planned cave, went to another. Surveyed a surface site. Was caving 12 hours a day 4-5 days a week.

  • France -- scientists treat fungus on Lasau cave, with ancient cave drawings. drawings are being destroyed.
  • 35000 year old naked woman carving found. SW germany. May be oldest venus figure. early carving of phalluses were in found in europe at a similar time, in wolly mammoth tusk.
  • white nose -- first detected in NY, 2/2006. absent from caves that are not visited by people, in areas where visited caves have fungus. more evidence that humans are infection vector.
  • sw-caver -- lyles and pajarito pushing leads in lech. GypKap mapping. Mapping of small gypsum caves near Carlsbad.
  • may be an ElMaP July 11. perhaps.

Ft Stanton

Sending around a sign up sheet for Ft. Stanton grotto trip. July 9-12.

Also a sign-up for the August trip. No solid date yet. cave creek in Pecos wilderness. More hiking than caving. With a wet suit, it could be a mile or more.

Perhaps an august picnic. Sat Aug 8. Persiods are Aug 12. Looks like Aug 8 at Liz's house will work. Sat. night. Bring a tent to stay if you wish to drink.

Pecos trip could be 1st or 29th with Carol or Linda leading. 2.5 hour drive to trailhead. 1 hour hike to cave where creek disappears. vertical, very wet.

We decided to go with Aug 1. Snow is a risk in late august.

This weekend, Ray has a trip near Winslow. Ray should be in town tonight.
