intros and trip reports

• grubbs went to NY, caved a little
• joe gavigan -- no caving lately
• jennifer boyette -- no caving, but traveled to GA and CO.

• keiffer -- did gypkap, torgac, last week. bilbo was there. wants surface re-survey.
• sam bono -- went to second weekend of ft. stanton expidition. inventory in new section. went by 3-way hill bypass. easier to get there that way. barely fit through keyhole. other way out also was easier. removed lowest two layers of wood from dig. expect to install first two levels of SS and plastic this weekend. elmap next weekend (7th)
• alan -- no caving lately.

• carol ? -- photographer, nm france, haiti. got back from haiti trip. studied cave art and vodoo stiff. project site cavesofhaiti.org.

• james tabinski -- back from SD, did Wind Cave tour. even off season, jewell was sold out.
• linda couts -- was a caver long ago. looking to do a girl scout caving event. needs help. hs girls. husband accomponied her. last caved with sandia grotto at ft. stanton in 1984. has lived out of the area for a while.
• Karen Lindsley-- was doing Registration at ICS. Dallas-Ft. Worth cavers. just moved here. meeting grotto.
• Pete Lindsley -- started caving in guads in 1961. also did some caving in KY, and lots of work in TX & Ark. Also caved in AZ, OK, Mexico, Slovenia and China. (Dwight Deal just got back from China, may go to china with them again. Last sept. went to Slovenia and Croatia - the Deal trips are more like geology field trips than expedition caving, and Mary Deal speaks mandarin.)
• micheal -- new top group. used to cave in AL, KY. a few small ones in SC. sera. tag.
• dan montoya -- torgac with keiffer. blake is starting a re-survey of torgac. surface archeo too. inventory. bilbo did an overview sat. sun they did an east entrence to regular entrance trip.

• bob cornish -- zanzibar in indian ocean. coral caves. two caves used as water sources. one had fish.
• linda starr -- went to climb mt. kilamanjaro in full moon, on their 5th wedding aniversary. 19,000 ft. many shelter caves on way up. rock is mostly basalt, kilamanjaro is a volcano. still some shrinking glaciers. then did a 3 day safari. all in tanzania. then to zanzibar. carol found lead on forest preserve that had cave leads surveyed by finns. one was about 7km survey. tried to find finns, but could not find them. drove to area, then they found cave. a monkey researcher was in the area. they were preparing it for tourism. commercial part does not go far. dry desicated caves, full of formations in coral. after that they looked at some 16th cent. portugese ruins. a local guy offered to guide them to some caves with water. cave was segregated. one part of the cave for women, another for men. they were looking for people to help restore ruins near cave. restoration archeologists. looking for ideas on how to write grant proposals. conservation plans. contact linda if you know how to find help. keiffer says there was one restoration archeologist at UNM, but he is retiring.

other linda was trying to set a date for the girl scout trip, perhaps early spring. linda starr suggested alabaster.

• katie boss (o'connell) -- no caving for a few years. wants to go again. recently married.

• carol lucero -- back from zanzibar. forest is not on most maps. red colobus monkey preserve. jungle is dense. colobus monkeys run in trees, but you can't see them. many other monkeys too, but no photos since they hide in trees.

haloween party

blakes house. friday evening 6:PM. will have grill and some brats. pot-luck otherwise. bring decorations too. show up early, perhaps 5:30 to help decorate. byob. w. on acadamy from eubank. s. on concordia.

pete does not seem to have any mails from sandia grotto.

linda starr volunteered to come early to decorate.

winter tech

dec 5. we will host. blake's office. deadline for abstracts is nov 1. several promoised talks have not yet submitted abstracts. fri night and sunday activities have not yet been planned.

grubbs offers his apt. for people to stay it. we need a list of more housing volunteers. we still need to plan a sat dinner.

abstracts are thin. not planning to reject any abstracts at this time. carol and linda may talk about africa trip. linda plans to present on possible 2013 nss bid. knutt is looking into possible facilities in roswell.

let grubbs or starr know if you can host cavers. let them know if you can have pets, smoking, RVs.

xmas party

need to start planning. dan and deb are luke-warm on hosting.

presentation

keiffer on Roaring Creek Cave, Beleize. cayo district. cave has not been mapped yet. they did archeo in upper level.

they like to get archeo studies somethat complete before allowing survey teams through.
